What do you mean mail.yahoo.com is history? Have they started charging for
new mail accounts or something?

I like my yahoo email accounts. I have virtually little spam. As compared
to the hotmail account I set up and have *never* given out the address to
anyone. I log in there every couple of weeks or so, just to keep it
active, and I have 400 new messages between my bulk spam folder and my
inbox. That's a load of bulls**t. Good thing I don't ever use that
account for anything important.

Other than those, I can't think of any other services out there besides
smaller, lesser known websites....

Don't know if I would use this one or not...hongliu li (owner of hotvoice.com) may not
have good intensions since his primary email is a hotmail address and hongliu li may
be an alias. His phone number points to Lan Qiu, (408) 253-7187, 20040 Rodrigues Ave,
Cupertino, CA 95014

I would not pay this any attention except for the fact that I've never heard of
hotvoice before and the front page on the site makes it sound like it's a large
corporate outfit or something even supporting multiple languages. The whois info
shows otherwise...

I also noticed the NY address of the technical contact REGISTER.COM phone number is a
Prince Edward IS or Nova Scotia number, not NY. A whois on REGISTER.COM give a
completely different number also but the same NY address. Go figure???

Perhaps he's talking about the pop3 access feature of yahoo? I know it use to work
but you had to agree to be spammed by signing up to the email marketing list to enable
the pop3 function. Has Yahoo discontinued pop3 access for free accounts?

http://www.eudoramail.com/ did have pop3 access but they have a weird interface.
haven't tried it lately though. Of course I'm a fan of web based applications and
love Yahoo;)

I use the pop3 access on yahoo all the time, and it was working fine as of
yesterday. I had also signed up for none! of thier spammails, but I got a
message today that yahoo had automatically subscribed all current users to
all of thier mailing lists.

Here's a copy of the message, with instructions on how to get the mailing
lists off your account:

FYI from AMY: Do you have a membership with YahooGroups? If you moderate or
operate a YahooGroups list serve you do. Or if you became a member to access
the
Moonlady News, BigDBeat or SeasonsCRC archives. Please read the following
which
I received from a friend. If anyone has ideas about list serve alternatives
to
YahooGroups, please send them on to me!

Important! If you don't want to receive a lot of spam from advertisers,
please
note the following:

Yahoo "updated" their privacy policy. What this means to you is that the
marketing preferences you indicated have been reset by Yahoo to make it okay
for
them to send you spam. You will need to reset them. Here's how.

Here's how:

1) After logging in to Yahoo, click the tab at the upper right top of
the page that says "Account Info."

2) Enter your password.

3) When that page opens, scroll to just under your listed email
addresses. Then click on "Edit Marketing Preferences."

4) When that page opens, you'll see that Yahoo has set each option to
YES (please send me spam). You'll need to click on each and every option
to change it to NO. Near the bottom of the page, be sure to check NO
about phone and postal delivery of advertising. then click "Save
changes."

5) A new page will appear. Click "Continue" This will take you back to
your account page.

6) Click "Finished"

Folks, I suggest, "Do it today!"

You must do this for every account/profile you have. (Not for every
group membership).

sendfakemail.com is owned by "Joe Bloggs" in BANGKOK and he wants spammers to send him
$9 so they can send fake email.

How can they secure the internet and prevent such aliases from being used when
registering domain names, etc? or is it someday possible?

The Tech-TV channel's The Screen Savers program covered this issue
during tonight's broadcast. Here is their website's mention of it
from the address immediately below.

======================

Yahoo! marketing preferences

If you have a Yahoo! account, you should check your privacy
preferences. Yahoo! has made some changes that could result in you
receiving a lot of spam.

To change your Yahoo! privacy preferences:

Go to Yahoo! and scroll to the bottom of the page. You should find a
link called Privacy Policy <http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy/us/>.
Click on the link.

In the left column, look for the Marketing Preferences
<http://subscribe.yahoo.com/showaccount> link. Click on it.

Log into your Yahoo! account.

Set the preferences to your liking.
