Foreign Internships - a Great Life Experience in
Israel

A few years ago while traveling in Europe, I noticed a
posting for an internship in Israel to work with an
Israeli-Arab human rights organization. Although I
had limited knowledge of the conflict and had maybe
covered it for a day or two in high school history and
had glanced at newspaper articles over the years, I by
no means had a deep understanding of the situation I
found myself in. However, I always had a desire to
visit there and to attempt to understand the
complexity of the place, to travel and meet
interesting people.
My health had been wavering for some time, but I was
driven by a need for adventure, to try something new
and maybe see a bit of the world. I wanted to find a
way out of the existential crisis I was going through
– I was in limbo, already an exile. My family begged
me not to go but by this point it was non-negotiable.
In a few weeks, I was going through the security gates
at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. more..
