You should try cycling the logs. I know the version we have has an option for 
max log size. If your version doesn't, you could write a file called CYCLEPOST 
to the log directory every hour to break up the log files.

Thanks again for the thoughtful suggestions. I will try and put monitoring 
system. We have two servers.

It simply stops writing to the log. Previously we've had issues where the log 
file gets very big (10gig+) . By that time it's too big to open. I have no 
choice but to delete the file.  We don't seem to have that issue anymore.

Next time it happens I will check CF log and will check DNS as well.

On log file in IMS  (eg. CFXi20080722.log) there are some entries such as
DBF5505411C61F4085F149304F7076E4 added to POST queue for xxxx
(Results) Input/Processed/Rejected/Excluded: 2/2/0/0
(ProcessTime) CFX_iMSMail version 4.6: 16 ms

Not sure what that means.
