Here is Howie's email from january about this:

.... Additional testing has been performed on an iMS 2.8 server
connecting to CF8 and iMS is, in fact, CF8 compatible. The version of
CF8 that was tested was 8,0,0,176276.

We also have a new version of the connector installer that correctly
detects CF8. You can download it here:

iMS 2.8.4 working with Coldfusion 8.

I've tried running
http://www.coolfusion.com/ftp/pub/ods/ims/CFML_Connector_Installer_12.zip but
still no joy (many times).

I always get the following error in the SMTP log when trying to send a mail.

"07/28/2008 12:03:34 PM [003] WARNING: inFusionEngine error:
C:\ColdFusion8\runtime\lib\wsconfig\iEng\jrun.dll was not registered. Please
configur inFusionEngine DLL mappings."

I've tried changing the DLL mapping to use any of the other usual jrun DLL's in
C:\ColdFusion8\runtime\lib\wsconfig and it's sub directories, none of which
work either, they all give the following..

"07/28/2008 11:36:19 AM [001] WARNING: inFusionEngine error: JRun ISAPI
Application Extension Stub failed (HSE_STATUS_ERROR)"

I'm using iMS 2.8.4 SOHO
Fusionmail 2.5 is installed.
Coldfusion Standard Edition 8.0.1
on Windows 2003 Standard Edition

I can get round the lack of CF integration for sending mail by using just using
the relay server on port 2525 but that's not going to help me for processing
incoming mail with Coldfusion (which to be honest is my whole reason for buying
iMS.)
