I have no idea, but this was the error:
'550-EarthLink does not recognize your computer (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) as connecting from an EarthLink connection. If this is in error, please contact technical support.'
Well it sounds like earthlink thinks that you should be one of its Dial up customers with an IP of theirs. It sounds like the similar problem that we come across with sendmail every so often (getting confused between accepting mail for their users and you trying to hijack their smtp server for relaying.
Pretty sure it is not an iMS issue.

Do Earthlink use sendmail?
I only ask as it is a common fault from some instances of sendmail to report an error along the lines of "will not relay". when in fact you are delivering to a domain they are managing.
