There are lots of projects that use Rosetta and Transifex. Some even
use crowdin.net.

Yes, if you want to screw everything, that would be a brilliant idea :)

My experience with those tools is extremely negative. They only work
when you have an established community around the translation, so a
peer review works as expected. And you cannot get people organized if
they don't want to.

When you are just a single translator, you suddenly realize you have
to watch the translation to make sure no clever kid ruins your work,
because he thinks he knows better. Over the last year I lost maybe a
day of my life (literally -- 24h) just to fix all the crap that some
such clever kids did to FreeCAD's translation.

It's a matter of responsibility. If Inkscape ever moves to an online
translation tool, I will stop translating it and I will switch to
English locale to avoid seeing what some people do to my translation.
I don't want my name under a crappy work that I didn't do, and I don't
have the time to keep track of all the changes, because my experience
tells me: it's going to eat as much of my time as it can grab. Call it
an overreaction if you like.
