thank you for your suggestions. bind() looks very promising. I must have missed it when I read the documentation. Now, it's just a matter of generating C code from mathematical formulae, finding out which math libraries I can rely on being on any system with a C compiler that Perl runs on, and binding/referencing package subs to the inlined C.
