*Call for Papers: The Optical Society of America (OSA) has added a Quantitative Medical Imaging<http://www.osa.org/ja-jp/meetings/optics_and_photonics_congresses/imaging_and_applied_optics/quantitative_medical_imaging/>(QMI) meeting to the 2013 Imaging and Applied Optics Congress<http://www.osa.org/en-us/meetings/optics_and_photonics_congresses/imaging_and_applied_optics/>(June 23-27, 2013). The focus of the QMI meeting is to advance the science of medical imaging algorithms and systems designed to calculate objective, effective, and reproducible quantitative imaging biomarkers. The meeting will cover both basic and applied research on image-based detection and measurement methods for all medical imaging modalities including current image acquisition methods, such as CT, X-Ray, MRI, PET, Ultrasound, Nuclear, as well as emerging biomedical image acquisition methods, such as OCT and thermography. An emphasis will be placed on automated methods and the optimization of imaging systems and image analysis algorithms. The meeting will cover research topics relevant to optimizing imaging biomarker performance including medical imaging algorithms, such as segmentation and registration algorithms, and medical imaging physics, such as image reconstruction, quality assurance phantoms, image quality metrics, and image correction methods. Optimization of algorithm performance with respect to image modality parameters, such as fundamental imaging characteristics and radiation dose, is highly relevant to this meeting. The integration of these methodologies in Computer-Aided Detection and Diagnostic systems will also be covered. The meeting program will mainly consist of scientific paper presentations with sufficient time allotted for Q&A and comments. Research on quantitative metrics for all imaging methods involved in patient care is sought, including but not limited to diffusion tensor imaging, CT perfusion, cardiac calcification, and the analysis of histology and pathology images. The meeting will emphasize demonstrating scientific reproducibility, thus algorithm performance challenges and open science practices will be encouraged.
We encourage the submission of short (up to 3 page) papers by March 6, 2013. Authors of accepted papers will present at the QMI meeting and the accepted papers will be published in the Proceedings of the Congress as part ofOSA’s Optics Infobase <http://www.opticsinfobase.org/> digital library. A selection of meeting papers, expanded to full length papers, will also be published in a special issue of OSA’s Optics Infobase library utilizing Interactive Science Publishing <http://www.opticsinfobase.org/isp.cfm> technology to support open science practices. More information on the QMI meeting, including paper submission instructions, can be found here: QMI Meeting<http://www.osa.org/en-us/meetings/optics_and_photonics_congresses/imaging_and_applied_optics/quantitative_medical_imaging/> .* * Important Dates: Paper Submission Deadline: March 6, 2013 Imaging and Applied Optics Congress: June 23-27, 2013: Chairs: Rick Avila - Kitware Raul San Jose Estopar - Brigham & Women’s Hospital*
