Is "git ci" an alias?  Does "git commit" work?

So it works when run directly but not under the commit hook.
Run the command

 (set -x && export SHELLOPTS GIT_TRACE=1 && git commit -m "") >commit.log 2>&1

and post the commit.log output please.
