Subject: RE: A real concern for Christianity

i apologise to people like judy redman for possible cross postings... i
posted some of this the other day on the late late elist
that i moderate...

that being said i think it adds to the conversation of this no longer being
about sexuality or the leadership issues within the
church.

I was talking to dad the other day about the current stuff being talked
about re sexuality and church and emu and alliances and blah
blah blah.

His thoughts were that this is not a discussion about Sexuality, homosexual
ministers and nor was it a discussion of us not thinking
the same or who is christian and not.

His thought was that this is a discussion on "Salvation," that the current
stuff that comes out of the UCA Assembly allows there to
be two different views on Salvation which are not the same. Infact, he was
suggesting they were "opposite" and therefore unable to
live side by side.

The problem is that they "cannot tell a homosexual person that they will go
to heaven if they dont change their acts." Because the
stuff that came out of the Assembly basically says that there are two
theologies of salvation these people have to take a stand,
there is only one way to salvation. not two.

This opened my eyes some more about the current discussion, Ive always held
to the salvation stuff, however ive never really viewed
salvation as "getting into heaven." guess my problem is that my view of
heaven isnt the same as many who talk about salvation =
heaven.

Which then means than not only does my salvation ideas not match, niether do
my heaven ideas, nor my god ideas, not my faith.....

Once again i look at all of this and ask "does this mean that I'm
christian?" or even "does this mean that i wont get into heaven"

Once again i look at these discussion and see how blooming irrelevant they
are, Jesus preached a God who is all about relationships,
a God which we can connect with, a God that is interested and involved. I
wonder sometimes that if i bumped into the crew of the
prophets on a hill one day, would i offer to build a tent and stay with them
or would i just tell them that they arent christians
and that they cant partake in my church anymore.

Once again i'm reminded that we cannot choose our families, but we can
choose our friends, and i ask myself if we're chosen and
called to be friends of christ or a family with... in which case we're
called to be a family and that also means that we can't
choose...

How does the church move on from its idea that it holds the keys to the
gates of heaven to the place where the church is the
community who are building the Kingdom of God?

Cheers
