You are correct -- the problem has nothing to do with Insoshi.

The version of RubyGems on my Mac is 1.3.3. The problem seems to be that I
have many versions of Ruby and the paths are messed up. I am going to backup
the Mac and if needed reinstall OS X Leopard as the last option.

Thank you again for your responses. I will certainly update the forum on my
progress.
