I'd suggest directing your question to the X Window community[1], as 
they are the owners of the kdmconfig utility and I'm not sure any of 
them hangs out in this one.

I presume this was a static configuration, not using DHCP?  Are the 
speed/duplex settings on the network switch correct?  You can try 
running "snoop -d nge0" to check out whether you're seeing any packets.
