Indeed. In evaluating alternatives, we need to be careful to distinguish
between the intrinsic behaviour of a particular solution and some
external implementation artefact like this.

Given the current installation times, how much of an improvement in
performance might be considered as a target? And how much of that
can be gained by speeding up the process and how much by simply
installing a smaller initial footprint?
