Is the original drive disconnected at this time?

Once you get to that point, what happens if you run "zpool import" at
the root prompt?  I have run into a ZFS bug recently that can cause a
corrupt zpool to force the system into a panic loop.  This affects
S10U4 and snv_69 (5.11) but not S10U3.

What common piece of hardware is there in the mix?  I bet this is the
culprit.
