Hi Emil,

I don't know specifically about the Lenovo Y400 model, but it sounds
like there is a problem with the hardware. The keyboard should work,
even if it isn't one that isn't self indentifying, it should still work.
At worst a few keys might be misinterpreted.

I have a lenovo 3000 which on which Solaris installs fine. Can you give
me a bit of data about this model? How old is it? Did it have windows or
something else installed on it previously, and did all the hardware work
  with this other OS?

The screen resolution issue I have seen as well on my lenovo, in terms
of the resolution. But, I did not see any corruption in the installer
GUI. Can you describe what kind of corruption you are seeing?
