This sounds quite like what I was seeing recently on a Toshiba M100 laptop. I think this could be http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6505688 (but I'm not sure) Can you try rebooting in failsafe mode, then when it asks if you want to mount your filesystem on /a, say yes.
