We are dealing with UFS root, for now. We will be moving to ZFS root as
soon as possible though. We do have plans to automatically setup for LU,
whether that happens in time for Dwarf or waits until we support ZFS I
am not sure. Mostly because we are on a tight schedule. It is an
important feature though and one we are planning for.

With ZFS 'setting up' for LU means mostly just ensuring we have enough
space available for a copy of the current BE. The create becomes a
snapshot and clone, with a clone promotion. And, then an upgrade later.
It is a lot different in terms of what we have to do today by actually
slicing out space for the ABE. Partly why we haven't proposed it for
UFS in Dwarf is because we know we are going to ZFS and this implies a
much different implementation.
