It looks like this is the key point of the message. I'm afraid I have
to disagree with it. There are several problems I see with the
suggestion:
- The effort spent polishing an installer we're hoping to discard
will be wasted once we're able to discard it.
- The resources used to design, implement, and test these changes
will cause Caiman to be even later and will likely affect other
projects.
- I think you may be underestimating the actual effort involved in
getting those things "right."
I certainly sympathize with your complaints -- I've been using Solaris
longer, and I've suffered more for the problems -- but I don't agree
that taking a detour will help the situation.
Unless you've got a pile of spare engineers with experience in Solaris
install and test capacity to go with it, I'd say "-1" to the proposal.
