I'm trying to install Solaris Express Developer Edition 1/08 on the following configuration:
m/b asus p5e-vm hdmi (G35 chipset) core 2 quad Q6600 4 Gb DDR2-800 hd maxtor sata 500Gb If i choose from the grub menu of the bootable DVD the Solaris Express Developer Edition 1/08 (first line), the installation fails: at 6% of setup i get errors complaining it can't set up some locale. If this error does not happen, then I get an error about partitioning. Then when command line console shows up, sometime I get strange bash errors, even giving a simple 'reboot' command. The behaviour seems quite random, sometime errors change, but I could not go further that point. If instead I choose the second entry at grub menu (Solaris Express) installation works, and system boots and runs correclty! On other machine and on vmware installation of Developer Edition works perfectly (using same DVD media!) DVD is ok, md5sum matches! I can't figure out what happens.. at first I supposed some incompatibility with chipset or other hardware, or even ram failure... but why only Developer Edition install fails, while Express install (second entry on grub) works?! notice that on same machine xp, vista and linux work perfectly! I also tried build 85, and it behaves the same way... This message posted from opensolaris.org
