Hi,

I had Solaris Express 01/08 installed a few days ago and it was working
well. I used the Solaris Express text based installer because my video
card driver is not supported by the install DVD. The first few
questions I remember being asked were if this computer is on a network
or not, DHCP or static IP, lookup service type (I chose DNS), DNS server
addresses, etc. I'm going to go into a bit of detail in a minute, but
the main issue is that every time I run the same installer again from
the same DVD, it no longer asks me for this information and installs
Solaris without support for my network card.

After my first install, networking worked fine until I rebooted and
chose xVM Hipervisor from GRUB. It seems to have done some kind of
damage because the network card was no longer listed in ifconfig -a when
it booted Solaris. I rebooted to Solaris Express from GRUB (not through
xVM) and same thing, no network. I installed Indiana Preview 2 RC and
no network. Some had me try running commands to check if nwam was
running, and restarting it. This did nothing.

Now I run the same Solaris Express text installer and it doesn't ask me
any networking related questions except for a host name. Is there
logic in the installer that skips those questions if it does not detect
a network card? Is it possible that the network card in my computer is
now dead? How is that possible?

I booted the diagnostics CD that came with this Sun Ultra 24 and tried
to do some diagnostics on my network card. It told me that the network
card is either not supported or could not be detected! I think xVM has
really screwed this up.

Thanks,
Ryan
