That's 2 extremes. I agree that software installed by the system onto a ystem is part of the system view. I also think that if a user installs something into their private space ($HOME) then the system has no business whatsoever even knowing it exists. But there's another possibility - user installed software on a particular machine. Developer installs Sun Java App Server into a place on the local system that they own or have access to. Should that be part of the system view or not?
