You can use ssh -X to do a remote display. You will need to do this from a
system running osol or snv.
On my dhcp server, it does not have a supported frame buffer. So I ssh -X
ad...@osol-dhcp, then just run dhcpmgr as follow:
dong{ding}42: !!
ssh -X ad...@osol-dhcp

Well this does work but isn't really the answer as the idea was to use the
system with local keyboard/mouse and a 17" LCD screen next to the record
turntable in my living room. I think I'll try SXCE build 130 on another
Ultra 5 next as this should have the m64 drivers.
Thanks, Andy

Keep us posted on progress. 512MB will work but the system will be kind
of slow after install though.
Just to let you know that build 134 with the text installer installed on a
512 MB Ultra 5 with no problems at all - it took a little over 1 hour on a
360 MHz machine. I can also confirm it will not install on a system with
less than 512 MB of memory - the screen just fills up with repeated errors
about insufficient swap being available.
I then installed gnome, gdm, etc into a new boot environment using pkg, etc
and that too was very easy to do. Currently the X server isn't working as I
fitted a PGX32 graphics card before the text install but now realise there
are no drivers for this in Opensolaris, only in SXCE, Solaris 10 or
earlier. I'll try taking the card out and see if the on-board graphics
works instead, or will try Martin Bochnig's drivers. Or perhaps use some
other PCI graphics card that is supported by Xorg on SPARC
But it's looking very promising & when I've got the X server started, I'll
move on to the audio side.

In the past I have successfully installed earlier

2009.06, only the AI method is supported which
apparently requires at
least 1 GB of memory. 512 MB is the maximum memory

systems so how is one supposed to install 2009.06 or
even 2010.03?
Actually the maximum memory on these systems in 1GB.
You're right! Not sure where I got the idea 512 MB was the limit but I'll
try and upgrade one of the Ultra 5's.
cheers,
Andy
