Ok, I gave up. I'm downloading the Solaris 10 DVD now. I have an Ultrasparc 10 with a newly replaced hard disk.
A full day of trying to set up an install server under Virtual box (and the easy install for the x86 image was a pleasure), Setting up static address (even pfexec can't edit some files -- I guess they are locked by running services) Setting up dhcp (finicky about made-up domains) Setting up installadm (never did get past some of the DHCP errors) And then nothing. I realise there are probably simple solutions and good reasons for all these problems, but the underlying issue is that any platform that requires a working alternative platform to install is not going to get any traction with new users. Probably the Sparc architecture is deprecated in OpenSolaris development, and I can understand that. Still there are bootable solaris and linux distros for the sparc platform. _______________________________________________ install-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/install-discuss
