Jakob, Doug:

Thanks for your thoughts about icons. We are currently considering how to handle
the colorings to so that people can see the state of the network "at a glance"
while providing a more visually pleasing map of the network.

Here are some possibilities:

- As Jakob suggested, each icon could have multiple images, one for each of its
states.

- Doug suggested that we could change the legend/label of the item, based on its
state.

- We've been thinking of various ways of displaying (color) icons with some kind
of border or background behind the icon to show its state.

- We're also thinking about some way of showing all the icons' colors when in a
normal (OK) state (when they would be green in today's InterMapper) but using a
grayscale version of the icon as a mask for red, orange, and yellow backgrounds.

What other methods might we use to make it obvious the state of colored icons?
Many thanks!
