I am not sure if this helps, but I wanted to ask if you have considered the built-in discard alarm. You can set a map-wide setting under "Traffic Thresholds" for the number of errors or discards per minute that will create the "bubble" graphic on a link. A device with interfaces with too many errors or discards will also go into an alarm.
