It turned out that the apparent connection between the security update and the IM Remote slowdown was coincidental. I installed IM remote on another Mac sans security update and encountered the same problem. Ditto on a Windows XP machine. When I fired up IM Remote on my Mac at home (again sans security update) this evening it also ran in slow motion.
Symptoms: When IM Remote starts up it takes a VERY log time for the maps to render completely, for charts to populate with data, and for traffic ants to start moving. Even once they do, frequently the ants stop moving, the charts stop updating, the menus don't respond, clicks and right-clicks on icons and links on the maps get no response, and the beachball spins on and on. The common denominator seems to be IM Server, which runs on a Fedora 9 machine. Everything that runs on that machine is nice and speedy, including the InterMapper web and telnet interfaces. Only access via IM Remote is affected, to the point where it is unusable. No Fedora updates, new software installs, or configuration changes on the Linux box coincided with the onset of the problem. For a long time IM Server played very nicely with IM Remote, then all of a sudden it didn't. I uninstalled and reinstalled IM Server and IM Flows. That didn't help. When I uninstalled IM Server and Flows before reinstalling I did not remove all the support files. Short of wiping everything and having to recreate all my maps and charts from scratch, is there anything else I can delete that might be corrupted and causing this problem? -- Chip Old (Francis E.
