While I agree this would be very useful, I'd like to add one possibile
enhancement to this idea.

Along with Intermapper, I use SNMPc, they have a feature which displays
icons based on the SNMP ObjectID. And icons can be customized. This
means that all my icons are live representations of the actual gear
installed. If I change a switch to a different model... The map icon
changes automatically. When I look at a SNMPc map I KNOW what gear is
out there.

Intermapper is still superior in many ways, but this is another feature
I think would be very helpful.

Subject: [IM-Talk] Feature Request - Insert a Bitmap

Greetings,

I have tried to locate any references to this functionality being
discussed, but have been unable to locate anything relevant. I have a
need/want to have an item on the "Insert" menu next to the "Text" item
that allows me to simply paste a bitmap (png, jpg, bmp, etc.) into the
map I'm working on... The bitmap would be capable of being re-sized and
moved around the map. I do not need the bitmap to be an actual monitor
(since I could do that by creating my own custom icon set). In addition,
this would not be the same as a "background bitmap" on a map, as that
would serve a totally different purpose.

Examples of usage:
(1) Identify the type of equipment being monitored (e.g. a Cisco
logo above the logical router symbol)
(2) Identify the ISP providing a specific Internet connection on a
map (e.g. a Verizon logo above the PPP link)
(3) Graphically link (using the URL double-click feature) a Verizon
logo above a circuit to an external customer service portal
(4) Show the photo of the actual technician responsible for a
particular remote site or server/device
(5) Etc...

The potential uses of such a feature would be huge (at least to me) and
would go a long way towards making my maps more functional, useful,
efficient, and readable. To be quite honest, I'm surprised that I was
unable to locate any previous requests or mention of such a feature.

Thanks, and keep up the great work on InterMapper!
-Bill
