While I agree this would be very useful, I'd like to add one possibile enhancement to this idea.
Along with Intermapper, I use SNMPc, they have a feature which displays icons based on the SNMP ObjectID. And icons can be customized. This means that all my icons are live representations of the actual gear installed. If I change a switch to a different model... The map icon changes automatically. When I look at a SNMPc map I KNOW what gear is out there. Intermapper is still superior in many ways, but this is another feature I think would be very helpful. The potential uses of such a feature would be huge (at least to me) and would go a long way towards making my maps more functional, useful, efficient, and readable.
