Good day, Janice. I have a question about one of the fixes listed below, specifically, "Added a workaround for a bug that causes repeated sounds to hang the sound subsystem on OS X." I'm wondering if this could have been causing our server to lock up, requiring a forced reset. The OS X log files never indicated a specific problem, so I assume the cause hung the system without any trace of itself in the logs. I'll be real happy to have a possible explanation:-)
Here's the history: First, the 'server' is typically on logged in to a user account for the purpose of doing updates, though our operations staff my have logged in and never logged off. The only time IM was actually opened on the server was to test it immediately following an update. All IM user activity is done via IM Remote and the web. Up until V5.0, the server was on a dual 1.25 Ghz G4 tower, mirrored disks, 1.5 Mb RAM, OS 10.4, and never hiccuped. Beginning with v5.0 and pre-release NetFlow, I moved to an Xserve, OS 10.4 server, dual 1.33 G4, 2 Gb RAM, 4 disk RAID. I installed all Intermapper and Apple updates as they were released. By IM 5.1 it had hung 3 times, and then had trouble booting. I had to reinstall the operating system to get it to boot, so I opted to install OS 10.4 desktop instead of server. It has since hung 4 times. Now, as I recall, each time it hung was during or at the end of a cycle of a major network failure caused by a power outage or the core router not being available. So, while it didn't hang during everything transitioning to a 'down state', it apparently hung at the tail end or within hours after everything returning to 'normal'. Does it sound like we may have been affected by the bug? Thanks for taking the time to read and consider this, Randy Millsop San Joaquin Delta College ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janice Losgar" <[email protected]> To: "InterMapper Discussion" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 15, 2009 6:54:31 AM GMT -08:00 US/Canada Pacific Subject: [IM-Talk] InterMapper 5.1.3 is available Folks: Dartware is pleased to announce the availability of InterMapper 5.1.3.
