Hi Jakob,

Another option is the NRPE TCP probe we added in 5.1.5. It is listed under Servers-Proprietary. I've experimented with it using NSClient++ (nsclient.org/nscp). I haven't tried an SMB/CIFS probe, but I'm sure they are out there.

Hi Jakob,
The only 2 ways that I've monitored those windows services is either via a Big Brother probe or by running an instance of IM server on a Windows host (keeping it to the 5 device eval limit) and using IM's Windows services probe. If you've never installed the Big Brother clients on Windows and used the BB probe in IM to monitor it, I'd suggest trying it. I've found it to be quite useful for monitoring many conditions on Windows. There are clients for Mac OS X and most other unix variants.

Subject: [IM-Talk] Is there no SMB probe???

Hi,

For some reason, I just now (after 10+ years of IM usage) had to
monitor an SMB/CIFS service... and it seems there is no probe for
that.. right?
Or am I blind?

Anyone have a probe that does more than monitor the TCP port?
Would be nice to be able to check the PDC on out XServe as well... is
it running, is it OK?

Possible?
