We had the same problem back when we had Barracuda spam filters.
For some reasons, their https server seems to think that the IM probe is
a bad person because it comes back so often without going through the
whole user experience (login, do something semi-useful, logout).
A tech engineer at Barracuda confirmed, off the record, something to
that effect.
Our, then, solution was to extend the down timer to cover the comatose
period.
