Josh,
Thanks for the note. InterMapper doesn't have the ability to draw "between the
layers" - it only has two:
- The background image
- The devices, networks and links in the foreground.

Reason is that I will be creating a separate series of maps for each of my sites
along with a Core network view. I want to have a link to the site map and using
a custom icon, set the link as an object behind the routers for that site. The
attached image should clarify what I mean. So I wish to set the box so it is permanently
behind the two devicea "Letron and Synot".

I can see how it would be useful to draw rectangles (or other shapes) like this
to give a visual indication that certain devices "belong together".
But is there something else you'd want it to do? Did you want to click on that
rectangle to go to another map?
If so, there's another way to do this: you can use the Double-click action to
tell InterMapper to go to another map. To do this:
- Select an icon (device or network) on a map (or add a new one)
- Choose Monitor -> Set Double-Click -> URL... (or right-click to Set Double-click
-> URL...)
- Enter a URL of this format:
intermapper://Host:Port/MapName
where:
- Host is the address/DNS name of the InterMapper server that has the map. Use
$SAMEHOST$ to get to a map on the same InterMapper server.
- Port is the port for the InterMapper server
- MapName is the name of the map, URL-escaped (%20 for a space, %3D for a slash,
etc)
As an example, the Example.com demonstration submaps all have links back to the
Example.com parent map that look like this:
intermapper://$SAMEHOST$:8181/Example.com%20National%20Map
Please get back to me if you have further questions. Thanks.
