Patrick, I always check the following in these scenarios: - Did the InterMapper server's connection get interrupted? If so, everything being monitored should have the same outage pattern - Did the device reboot? look at the 'Uptime' reported by the device. Cisco routers also show their uptime and reason for last boot in the output of the 'Show Version' command. - are their other active switches/routers between the InterMapper server and the router in question? Check each of those for reboot, connection loss, or interface resets. Use the 'Show Interface' command on cisco equipment to show interface resets - if there is an excessive volume of traffic on any interface along the path or on the router itself, the snmp packets could be dropped from full queues, as it is only a 'best effort', 'connectionless' protocol. - If the cause is traffic volume, then the specific time intervals and length of time may indicate a malware program waking up to attempt to scan ip ranges or phone home. I've seen many of these situations cause high volume flooding of lower bandwidth connections such as those which your router may be handling. If this is the case the router is probably dropping your snmp queries as low priority packets
