You can just manually change the label on the icon, you know, to display 
whatever you want to your customer. Hence you can hide it.
The underlying click-through is unaffected (and abstracted from your customer).

I change the Labels on my icons all the time to reflect what I want it to say, 
and show up in the DeviceList/Alarm List.
