Folks:

The first public beta test version of InterMapper 5.4b3 ("Froglet") is
now available. It contains several new features and many bug fixes. We
would be delighted to have you use it and send us comments and bug reports.

MAJOR FEATURES:

* InterMapper Reports: InterMapper now includes InterMapper Reports for
creating reports from the data in InterMapper Database. With it, you can
generate quick reports directly from InterMapper devices or use the
web-based report generator, create and save report views, generate links
suitable for sending reports to others, and print reports to printers.

* InterMapper Layer 2: InterMapper has added a Layer 2 view to the types
of map views available. If a map contains at least one SNMP-enabled
switch, the Layer 2 view displays the switches, NICs by manufacturer,
and VLANs by tag from the map. In addition, InterMapper can optionally
use this information when available to connect devices on the map to the
appropriate switch ports.

MINOR FEATURES:

HTTP Follow Probe: This probe extends the standard HTTP probe to allow
following a limited number of page redirects to the same HTTP server.

* Import/Export of Helper Apps: You can now import and export Helper App
configurations in the InterMapper GUI or InterMapper RemoteAccess from
the File menu or from the Helper Apps "Customize" screen.

* Drag Between Maps: You can now drag items from one map's list view to
another map's list view or icon view.

* More logs available in Bug Reporter: The Bug Reporter will now allow
you to attach InterMapper Switches, InterMapper Reports, InterMapper
Database, and InterMapper Authentication Server logs along with the
usual Debug, Event, and Outages logs to bug reports in situations where
the GUI or server can access them.

* More icons available for use in maps: We have added a large number of
icons in several categories to the built-in icons.

* New look to InterMapper RemoteAccess Map List, Helper Apps windows:
The Map List and Helper Apps windows now include buttons at the bottom
to add, remove, get info about, and perform other operations. In
addition, you can optionally add device count columns to the Map List
window by clicking on the right arrow next to the current columns.

* Upgrade check and installer improvements: In order to help users avoid
the pain of upgrading to a version of InterMapper for which they have no
license, the upgrade checks and the Mac and Windows installers will
compare the manufacture date of new versions against the expiration of
the currently installed license and only allow upgrade if the license
will allow the new version to run. (This check will work as long as
5.3.7 or later is the already-installed version.)

* Downgrade protection: InterMapper will use an improved algorithm for
backing up maps to make it easier to go back to an older set in the case
where a user desires to "downgrade" to an earlier version of InterMapper.

* Numerous small enhancements and bug fixes: As always, we have made
small enhancements and bug fixes too numerous to list here. Please
review the release notes for the complete list.

KNOWN ISSUES:

* (Reports) When printing from Firefox, Safari or Chrome, charts will
show up empty. (Printing tables should work.)

* (Reports) There may be some visual "glitches" at the bottom of the
window, especially when resizing.

* (Reports) When you bring up any view that initially shows a chart,
particularly those reached from an IM right-click, then switch the
display to table, the table will appear empty. A work-around is to link
to the view after switching to table, and use that link. As long as it
starts out in table display, switching back and forth is fine; it's only
a problem if it starts with a chart.

* (Reports) If you have created a saved view in which the new status
column is sorted, the setting is saved properly, but the column will not
appear sorted when you load that view.

* (Reports) Although the current table page is saved, and is set when
the view is loaded, a bug in the grid plugin we're using means that it
continues to show the first page of data regardless of what the setting
says. You have to click back/forward once before it shows the correct data.

* (Layer 2) After autodiscovery or enabling of Layer 2, it will take
some time (5-15 minutes) before Layer 2 has had the opportunity to
gather enough information to connect devices to switch ports.

OTHER NOTES:

Please refer to the "What's New" page and the Release Notes for a
complete list and description of the new features and bug fixes.

OTHER NOTES:

Please note: THIS IS BETA SOFTWARE! We recommend that you do not
install this InterMapper 5.4 beta release on your primary InterMapper
server; install it on a secondary machine and work with a copy of your
InterMapper Settings folder. We have provided a test serial number on
the download page that you can use for an entirely separate
installation.

Having said all that, we deeply appreciate your willingness to try out
this version. Your feedback gives us a lot of insight into the problems
of people who manage real networks. Thanks again.

The InterMapper Team

PS. Why "Froglet"? Well, all of our customers love the traffic "ants".
With over 1,500 species of ants in Australia, we figure that we'll never
run out of code names...http://www.ento.csiro.au/aicn/images/cain4075.jpg
