Hi, I ran into problems going from 5.3.7 to 5.4.4 (IM/Windows). IM Datacenter was gone (normal behavior), but IM couldn't connect to its database and nobody could authenticate to the server using their IM Remote Access. I just stopped IM and IM Flows, backed up the IM Settings folder, uninstalled everything, then reinstalled it and now everything's OK. Doing that is pretty painless since IM does a good job of just keeping all of its settings in the IM Settings folder, and may be quicker for you than troubleshooting the numerous issues you mentioned...
