Another suggestion for improving Intermapper.

The Event Log on the server is incredibly useful. I can't tell you
how many times I have gone to the Intermapper server, and looked at
the daily event log files in the Intermapper Settings / Intermapper
Logs folder. Whenever there is a serious issue I invariably look back
through the event logs to see if there are any clues as to when the
issue started and what devices were impacted.
Unfortunately the event logs are not readily accessible. You need to
have access to the actual Intermapper Server to see the event logs.
At the site where I am from they have 100 Intermapper RemoteAccess
users, and giving everyone access to the Intermapper Server simply is
not practical.
In the Intermapper RemoteAccess client you can open the Event Log
window by choosing Logs/Event Log under the Window menu. But this
only shows you the most recent 60 lines. Not particularly useful, so
I never use this feature.
This suggestion involves enhancing the Event Log window to make it
incredibly useful.
Here is what I have in mind:
(1) When I right click on a device on a map and select 'Show Event
Log' this opens the Event Log window. In this case the most recent
1000 events for this device are displayed. These events may span many
days or months.
(2) I can also open the Event Log window by choosing Logs/Event Log
under the Window Menu. In this case the most recent 1000 events for
all devices are displayed.
(3) If I want to look at earlier event log information I can do that.
There are controls in the Event Log window for looking at data for
previous days and months.
(4) In fact, the new Event Log window is really a general purpose
search interface. You can type the string that you want to search
for. You can see how many days of event log data are available on
the server, and specify the days you want to search through. You can
even use regular expressions in the search string.

PS:
I realize that it is possible to do this using Intermapper
DataCenter. However, to make such functionality accessible to the
majority of Intermapper users it is important to make the
functionality available through the RemoteAccess interface.
The #1 reason people choose Intermapper is because the RemoteAccess
user interface is spectacular.
