This does prevent a map from becoming red when the issue is in a different map. 
 However, the icon does not reflect the status of the target map.

The second issue is that while this works with the web interface, I can't get 
it to work  in IM Remote Access.

I got around this problem by copying the URL for the parent map icon and using 
it to set the double-click action of a non-polling device or bogus network icon.
