what would be more comparable would be the debian RM('s).  and it's worth
pointing out that we don't elect those--instead we have a self-selecting
team who handle it.  after a new version has been released, usually one
or two of them will become an SRM (Stable Release Manager), focusing on
the long-term-support issues for the new release, whereas the rest of
the team continues to focus on forming the next release.
