*Interview mode: phone then Skype* *Position Description: * The Web Developer is responsible for the technical implementation of projects, processes, and initiatives in support of web marketing across all Cengage Learning (CL) market groups. The Developer takes an essential role in maintaining and improving the website building framework constructed for our new *Content Management System (Ektron CMS*) in *ASP.NET <http://ASP.NET>, C#, and JavaScript.* This position requires that the developer work both collaboratively and independently to provide various types of websites as specified by Marketing stakeholders, and to take on new web marketing initiatives as needed. This position must interface with internal stakeholders in many areas of the company to implement projects, including CL market groups and functional areas such as CLTS, GPMS, and the GNM group. This position must interface with internal stakeholders in many areas of the company to implement projects, including CL market groups and functional areas. *Essential Duties/Responsibilities:* •Programs Cengage Marketing websites from approved design layouts and functional requirements. Programs, configures, administers, and updates *the Content Management System (CMS) running on the Ektron platform.* Creates and maintains web services, back-end databases, and related applications. Reliably deploys website files and data to servers. •Creates and documents technical designs. Partners successfully with web designers and other web developers on the team and others in various internal departments to ensure websites are built correctly and perform optimally. •Makes code revisions to existing websites as directed. Ensures cross-browser compatibility, performance, and robustness of websites. Evaluates site performance and makes modifications as necessary to optimize. •Writes and executes quality assurance test plans as necessary to prove operational readiness. Completes standard quality assurance checklists for each project. Completes standard change management procedures. •Monitors production websites for errors and performance issues. Addresses technical and administrative issues raised by the CMS. Work with the CMS vendor to resolve issues. •Creates web pages in conformance with Cengage Learning Web Style Guide. Follows corporate web style and branding guidelines. Ensures that designs are coded to adhere to best practices and accessibility guidelines. Follows best practices for secure web programming and deployment. Appreciates and participates in code reviews and the enforcement of consistent technical standards. •Takes a leading role in continuous improvement of programming and processes by researching and recommending best practices. Proposes new technical tools, frameworks, and processes to the team. •Writes technical design and maintenance documentation for websites, databases and related workflow processes. Utilizes current document management systems, tools, and procedures. •Performs additional responsibilities as needed to achieve team and company goals. *Skills/Knowledge/Experience:* *Required* •Education: 4-year degree, preferably in Information Technology, web development or a related field •Minimum of 3 years web programming experience •Strong knowledge of application design, debugging, and testing for web development using ASP.NET, C#, JavaScript, and jQuery •Proficient in *HTML 5, CSS 3, JSON, and XML* •Strong understanding of object-oriented and MVC programming methodologies •Experience working with source code control systems (e.g*., SVN, CVS, TFS)* •Understanding of common programming patterns in C# •Experience in creating and managing *SQL Server databases* and stored procedures •Comprehensive knowledge of production website deployment and management using IIS 7 •Knowledge of *W3C web standards* for creating clean, compliant code •Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook •Excellent analytical and debugging skills. Must demonstrate the ability to understand feature and functional requirements, analyze problems, design effective solutions; and *use advanced debugging techniques.* •Excellent communication skills. Must possess an ability and willingness to prepare technical design and maintenance documentation, share knowledge with others, and explain solutions to management, team and stakeholders across multiple departments. •Ability to handle multiple projects, work under deadlines, and learn and work independently. •Takes responsibility for the appropriate level of detail and accuracy required for tasks and projects •Solution-oriented, proven ability to solve problems and overcome technical obstacles •Possesses drive and motivation for achievement with the ability to learn, apply new concepts and tools quickly; motivated by successfully accomplishing goals •Travel Requirements: Must be able to travel 5% (air, car, train) as needed (including overnight travel); work overtime as needed *Preferred* •Experience implementing a major *Content Management System*, such as the *Ektron CMS.* •Experience coding for WCAG 2.0 accessibility •Experience developing for mobile devices and responsive designs •Experience with Adobe SiteCatalyst (Omniture) and/or Google Analytics •Knowledge of technical search engine optimization techniques and tools.
