Job Description (External Field) *Describe the network environment and name the products that will be supported: * Reporting to the Advanced Services SP Canada Manager, this is a technical role, providing pre/post-sales on-site support of Juniper’s Network Products with focus on Security applications and deployments. The Resident Engineer will be required to develop and maintain expertise on the security related products deployed or to be deployed within the Customer’s network. A key requirement for this RE position is proven OSS system development and maintenance experience. *Key Responsibilities:* This is a full-time position on-site at the customer location and may require long work hours. On-site technical support to the Customer may require the RE to: - Hold design and information gathering workshops with the Customer to understand the Customer’s existing network design and technical requirements of new network designs. - Hold technology workshops with the Customer to discuss equipment and network problems, and to provide case status updates, including the reasons for any problems encountered and the workarounds and/or solutions that are being tried - Understand the Customer’s organizational structure and become familiar with the Customer’s network implementation and support processes and procedures to help in designing a network that is available and sustainable. - Carry out testing of new designs, features, and functionality as required by the Customer in a laboratory environment and to help develop plans to implement and verify that they are operating correctly in the live network - Test patches and fixes to operating software and to ensure that they are implemented and functioning correctly in the pre-production test network and then live network as implementation plans dictate. - Produce a written summary report of the status of Design projects, equipment and network problems on a regular basis to the Customer - Focus on network troubleshooting and operations support along with network and configuration analysis - Assist with network inventory asset management and tracking - Assure success of customer projects related to migration toward Juniper implemented solutions through active participation and leadership - Conduct informal technical and product workshops with customer internal support teams - Troubleshoot equipment and network problems and to open and track JTAC cases through to problem resolution on pre and post production issues. - Raise equipment Return Material Authorizations (RMA’s) and to track these through to problem resolution - Train the Customer’s design, implementation and support personnel to configure and operate the Juniper Networks products - Assist the Customer to develop Network Operating and Equipment Operating Procedures - Support design and planning of Juniper SRX-Series security products and associated solutions within the Customer infrastructure - Support JUNOSpace implementation and utilization including associated applications - Support ongoing efforts in defining best practice policies for Juniper product applications used by Customer - Peer with other employees performing similar resident engineering roles where lessons learned may help minimize risk associated with major network upgrades or changes in the network. - Support PoC/new card/platform certification across Wireline/Wireless/IT - Support NSM to Space migrations The RE will be expected to develop secondary skills in other products in the Juniper product portfolio. *Skills and Experience: * With a Service Provider or MSO equivalent, candidates must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience providing implementation and technical support of security and networking products in LAN, WAN, or Internet services environments. Candidates for this role must be able to demonstrate the following competencies: 1) Detailed technical experience in the installation and operation of Security and IP based routers. This includes hands-on operation of management tools and network analyzers. 2) Hands-on configuration and operational knowledge of Juniper Networks JUNOS and SRX-Series products. Exposure to Juniper EX and MX-Series products a plus. 3) Familiarity with CheckPoint security related products and applications. 4) Service Provider NOC/SOC experience (an understanding of how large networks function and their associated monitoring and performance tools). 5) Experience working in a 24/7 global infrastructure environment. Able to handle critical P1 issues requiring quick turnarounds. 6) Detailed understanding of security best practices including: 1. Stateful firewall 2. NAT 3. ALG’s 4. DOS/DDOS mitigation 5. IPS/IDS implementation and signature creation 6. Application Level security (AppFW) 7. SIEM (Arcsight or STRM preferred) 8. Threat intelligence (Cloud based) 7) A detailed understanding of the protocols surrounding IP service provider networks. These skills should include: 1. TCP/IP fundamentals 2. IP subnetting and supernetting and hierarchical routing principles 3. Routing protocol operation (OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, RSVP, IPv6, and BGP) 4. Routing policies at BGP peering points 5. VPNs and the associated tunneling technologies (L2TP, MPLS, etc.) 8) A detailed understanding of Ethernet as a Layer 2 protocol. 9) Virtualization technologies i.e. VMware, OpenStack 10) Delivery of Knowledge Transfer type training sessions. Able to share knowledge in both formal and informal settings. 11) The ability to function in a team environment. 12) Strong customer interface and presentation skills 13) Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work calmly under pressure 14) JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP for Security.
