Folks,

I wanted to bring to your attention the E-Payments 2001
Conference scheduled for this coming October 24-25 in Atlanta.
The Electronic Payments Forum (EPF) has been conducting
conferences focused on electronic and Internet payments since
1995. The EPF was organized under the auspices of CommerceNet,
the Cross Industry Working Team (XIWT), and the Financial
Servcies Technology Consortium (FSTC). More information is
available at:

E-Payments 2001 is an ad-hoc meeting, held annually for the
payments community, by the community. EPF has consistently
attracted the forward thinkers in computing, telecommunications,
and business. These leaders attend the forum to discuss what
cross-sector work needs to be done to maintain a steady growth
curve in Internet commerce.

Since the EPF is not aligned with any specific industry groups,
its conferences can look broadly at new payment solutions without
being encumbered by industry biases. This, in my mind, increases
the value of these conferences for anyone who wants to broaden
their understanding of key developments and trends in emerging
payments.

I will be chairing one of the sessions at E-Payments 2001, but
I'm going to try to do something different for a payments
conference. (Note: the description of my session on the EPF web
site is out of date.)

During my session, I am going to introduce perspectives from
actual *users* of the current and emerging payment systems. Since
the needs and requirements of business, individual and government
payers and payees are so often overlooked during discussions of
payments, it is perhaps not surprising that user adoption has
been one of the problems plaguing new payment solutions. By
bringing the voice of the user to this conference, I hope that
industry attention will begin to focus more on solving user
problems as opposed to payment system problems.

If you, or someone you know, could speak about the needs of
payment system users, I would very much like to hear from you.

For those of you who can make it to E-Payments 2001, I look
forward to seeing you there.

Regards...
