Listening to the LPFM station WSLR-LP in Sarasota, Florida on 96.5 MHz. FM, I
cam across a unique program called The Shortwave Report which is produced by
Dan Roberts and describes itself on its website
<www.outfarpress.com/shortwave.shmtl
<http://www.outfarpress.com/shortwave.shmtl>> as, “[A] 30 minute review of news
stories recorded from shortwave radio. Times and frequencies for
English-language programs are included to encourage you to listen on your own.”
It is also podcast from <https://outfarpress.podbean.com
<https://outfarpress.podbean.com/>>.

A new show is “posted” to the website every Friday morning. I have heard this
program before but hearing it now brough it back into a little focus and I
thought I’d share the information. It airs on WSLR-LP at 12:30 pm on Saturdays
and the station is streamed at <wslr.org <http://wslr.org/>> for those outside
the FM range of the station.

LPFM stations are FCC licensed and are popping up all the time. Many are a
source for unique, non-commercial, community-focused radio programming not
generally broadcast by the commercial stations. Near my QTH in Halfmoon, NY,
WOOC-LP transmits from Troy, NY on 105.3 FM and broadcasts a wealth of African
and Afro-Caribbean music during a large portion of its 24/7 schedule. It also
streams from <www.mediasanctuary.org/inistatives/radio/
<http://www.mediasanctuary.org/inistatives/radio/>>.

Entering “The Shortwave Report” into a search engine can serve as a nice
introduction into the community LPFM stations that exist around the country.
