Podcasts permit a shift of listening time from a set appointment to virtually
any convenient occasion. I do it while taking my daily (more or less) 3 mile
walk, while I’m “plodding along”.

While there are thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of great podcasts from
other sources, the ones sponsored via public radio have been vetted through the
worthy objectives of the medium.

Here’s what I’ve been listening to recently. I hope you might find these
suggestions — in roughly 90 minute bites -- helpful in enhancing your own
enjoyment of radio, our favorite medium.

“Philosophy from the Pub, with Lewis Gordon”
IDEAS - CBC Radio One
Lewis Gordon is an academic. But he argues that confining thinking to the
academy has resulted in people forgetting that philosophy “has something
important to say.” He helps remedy the situation with this warm, funny, vital
talk, recorded in a historic pub in St. John’s, Newfoundland, by Memorial
University. (54”)

“What Should Happen Now with Ukraine?”
THE MIDDLE - NPR
The Middle is hosted by Jeremy Hobson, a public radio journalist and former
host of NPR’s Here & Now and Marketplace Morning Report. Jeremy grew up in the
midwest, where people don’t spend every waking minute thinking about politics -
but do have a lot of sway in our politics. With The Middle, Jeremy and his team
hope to use the unique position of public radio to facilitate a conversation
focused on those overlooked but important voices. (53”)
