Podcasts permit a shift of listening time from a set appointment to virtually
any convenient occasion. I do it while taking my daily (more or less) 3 mile
walk, while I’m “plodding along”.

While there are thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of great podcasts from
other sources, the ones sponsored via public radio have been vetted through the
worthy objectives of the medium.

Here’s what I’ve been listening to recently. I hope you might find these
suggestions — in roughly 90 minute bites -- helpful in enhancing your own
enjoyment of radio, our favorite medium.

“The Mixed Legacy of Cold War Liberalism’”
THE RELIGION AND ETHICS REPORT - ABC Radio National
In the aftermath of World War II, those who styled themselves as Cold War
liberals thought they were upholding the best ideals of Christianity, fighting
for democracy and individual rights. But Yale University historian and
philosopher Samuel Moyn says their good ideas went awry. And in many ways, we
live with the consequences to this day. (28”)

“Low and No Alcohol”
THE FOOD PROGRAMME - BBC Radio 4
What's behind the rise and rise of low alcohol and alcohol free drinks? The
sector grew by a quarter last year alone, fueled by our changing relationship
with alcohol. More than fifteen million people are thought to have considered
taking part in Dry January this year and younger drinkers in particular are
turning away from alcohol and embracing alcohol-free versions of beer, wine and
spirits or entirely new drinks coming onto the market. (42”)
