Podcasts permit a shift of listening time from a set appointment to virtually
any convenient occasion. I do it while taking my daily (more or less) 3 mile
walk, while I’m “plodding along”.

While there are thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of great podcasts from
other sources, the ones sponsored via public radio have been vetted through the
worthy objectives of the medium.

Here’s what I’ve been listening to recently. I hope you might find these
suggestions — in roughly 90 minute bites -- helpful in enhancing your own
enjoyment of radio, our favorite medium.

“Liberalism”
RETHINKING - BBC Radio 4
Across the West, the long-established liberal order appears to be struggling to
adapt to the economic and social challenges of the 21st century. As a result,
traditional politics is being rejected by voters at the ballot box,
increasingly usurped by narratives once considered too radical for the
mainstream. In Europe, right wing populists and the far-right are in the
ascendancy in countries such as France, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy.
Across the Atlantic, Donald Trump has returned to the White House for a second
term. The roots of political liberalism can be traced back to the 18th century,
with much of the modern liberal world order emerging out of the end of World
War II. But as similar patterns emerge across numerous democracies, could we be
witnessing the end of liberalism?

"The New 'State Media.' Plus, Podcasters Are Running the FBI.”
ON THE MEDIA - NPR and WNYC New York Public Media
Breaking from a century of tradition, the White House says it will seize
control of the press pool covering the president. On this week’s On the Media,
the new administration is prioritizing access for an array of far-right
influencers and news outlets. Plus, what President Trump’s pivot toward Russia
means for Ukraine after three years of war. (54”)
