The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences offers one of the most

The School of Social and Political Sciences (SSPS) composed of the
departments of Anthropology, Government and International Relations,
Political Economy, Sociology and Social Policy, and Peace and
Conflict Studies, offers innovative degrees at undergraduate and
postgraduate levels that attract the very best students from
Australia and overseas. SSPS is the focus for the strategic
development of the social sciences at Sydney with a view to our
becoming Australia’s leading centre for research and teaching in the
area. 

An exciting opportunity exists to join the SSPS as part of the Human
Rights Research and Teaching program. The successful applicant will:

- participate in the teaching, curriculum development and course
  co-ordination of the Masters of Human Rights and the regional Asia
  Pacific Masters of Human Rights and Democratisation
- teach a range of undergraduate subjects across the fields of human
  rights and core curricula in SSPS, and in particular in the field of
  socio-legal studies
- make a contribution to the research strengths of the School,
  including the pursuit of research grants and regular publication in
  journals of high standing
- supervise research higher degree students
- be a source/centre for interdisciplinary collaborations within the
  University and with external stakeholders
- contribute to academic administration

To be successful in this role you will possess:

- a PhD in an area pertaining to Human Rights (either Development,
  Anthropology. Sociology, Law, or Political Science) as well as
  experience in the field of human rights practice
- a thorough knowledge of the international human rights system and
  the operation of human rights institutions
- demonstrated teaching ability and experience including evidence of
  teaching effectiveness and potential to contribute to curriculum
  development
- a demonstrated capacity and willingness to teach across core
  curriculum and develop human rights research and teaching programs
- a track record of research publications and a promising research
  trajectory
- the potential to supervise honours and higher degree research
  students
- experience undertaking Departmental administrative responsibilities
- proven team work skills in a university setting

Desirable for appointment is your:

- expertise in the Asia Pacific region
- experience in course coordination
- demonstrated success obtaining external grant funding

Remuneration package:
Lecturer (Level B): a competitive remuneration package of $102,092 to
$121,232 p.a. is available (consisting of a base salary $86,269 to
$102,443 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to
superannuation).
