Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Global Ethics/Deputy Director of the
Centre for the Study of Global Ethics

The Lecturer salary range will be £37,382 to £44,607. With potential
progression once in post to £50,186 a year.

The Senior Lecturer salary range will be in the range £45,941 to
£53,233. With potential progression once in post to £69,412 a year.

The Department of Philosophy is seeking to appoint a full-time
Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Global Ethics (start date September
2013 or as near as possible after). The successful candidate will be
the Deputy Director of the Centre for the Study of Global Ethics and
will work with Professor Heather Widdows, the Director of the Centre
to develop and promote the Centre with regard to research, policy
work and teaching. Accordingly the successful candidate must have a
willingness and enthusiasm for multidisciplinary work – particularly
with regard to research grants and teaching – and also a desire to
influence policy and practice and to work with policy-makers,
practitioners and activists to this end.

The successful candidate is likely to specialise in applied ethics,
moral philosophy, or political philosophy. However, as long as their
area of research falls within Philosophy (understood as submittable
to the philosophy sub-panel in the REF) they are eligible to apply.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching
in the Department, and in particular we are seeking to appoint a
candidate who can teach in the areas of bioethics, global justice and
human rights, as well as contribute to ethics teaching in the core
Philosophy undergraduate degree. The candidate will be expected to be
involved in examining within the department and play their part in
administration and innovation as required.
