Call for Publications Theme: Humanity and the Universe in the Middle Ages Publication: Digital Philology: A Journal of Medieval Cultures Date: Special Issue Deadline: 15.8.2013 __________________________________________________ Considering the entire world during the period we commonly call the Middle Ages, ca. 300 CE to ca. 1500 CE is a relatively new practice within a variety of disciplines. Traditionally, the Middle Ages has meant the Western Middle Ages with a Eurocentric bias. During the past few years, however, more scholars are taking a broader view. While some are broadening their own work, others are finding ways to collaborate with colleagues within their own disciplines and across others to integrate all human experience in this period – creating a Global Middle Ages. Digital Philology invites paper proposals for a special issue that focuses on how different peoples and cultures envisioned their role in the universe – through creation stories, ritual practices, spiritual beliefs, celebration and other aspects of human experience – within the perspectives of cosmogony, cosmology, and/or cosmography. We seek papers from scholars worldwide in any discipline, who can broaden our understanding in this area. Of particular interest are papers that offer an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, or transdisciplinary perspective. Papers may be focused on a single culture or address cultural beliefs and practices in more than one part of the world. To submit your proposal, please e-mail title and a 250 word English abstract and detailed contact information for primary author with the subject line: ATTN:DIGITAL PHILOLOGY by August 15, 2013 to: Dr. Marguerite Ragnow, ragn0...@umn.edu. Authors of accepted proposals will be invited to submit articles by November 1, 2013; all papers are subject to the standard review process at Digital Philology: A Journal of Medieval Cultures.
