The PEGIDA movement, the European fear of and resistance to refugees
and hate crimes related to racial ideologies or religious believes…
Stereotypes are an essential part of these dangerous developments in
the last few years. They became emblematic for the fear of the
unknown “other” and influenced even moderate interest groups in our
modern societies. There definitely is a relationship between
stereotypes and violence, no matter if the latter one is physical or
psychological. Stereotypes in addition might lead to conflicts that
are solely based on assumptions and imagined threats. To further
analyze the interrelationship between historical and still existing
stereotypes and all possible forms of violence we invite proposals
from all fields of the humanities that deal with, but are not limited
to the following topics:

- Gender stereotypes and violence
- Racial stereotypes and violence
- Public reception of stereotypes and its impact on violence
- Violent stereotypes
- Ideological use of stereotypes to create violence
- Stereotypes and political pressure groups
- Stereotypes and fear

For a better planning of the next volume, we ask you to send in a
short proposal (around 250 words) and a CV by 31 January 2016. Final
papers, ranging from 5,000 to 7,500 words (using footnotes,
stylesheet will be provided by the editor) are due by 31 March 2016.
