Call for Publications Theme: Probing Philosophical Pragmatism Publication: Yearbook Practical Philosophy in a Global Perspective Date: 2016 Deadline: 15.3.2016 __________________________________________________ (Deutsche Version unten) The new Yearbook Practical Philosophy in a Global Perspective serves as a forum for original research articles in political, moral, social, and legal philosophy, as well as in neighbouring disciplines (broadly conceived as sociology, psychology, law, economy, cultural studies, political and environmental sciences) that concentrate on, or can be suitably related to, questions of a global dimension. The yearbook has two sections: section one will feature general research papers pertaining to the scope of the yearbook, and section two will assemble specialised papers under a principal topic, which changes each year. The topic is the same as that of the annual symposia organised by the Rottendorf research and study project at the Munich School of Philosophy. For more than 30 years, this project has been engaged in the philosophical discussion of global problems (www.hfph.de/rottendorf). We invite submissions to both the general section and the special section, the principal topic of which is philosophical pragmatism. There are two stages to the selection of papers: Abstracts of no more than 500 words can be submitted until March 15th, 2016. Upon preliminary acceptance by the editors we ask for submission of the full papers (6.000 to 10.000 words) by September 30th, 2016. The yearbook is due to be published in summer 2017. The scope of the yearbook is broad: no method, field, or school is excluded. Inclusion in the yearbook depends solely on the academic quality and originality of the articles. We particularly encourage contributions by early career scholars. All submissions will undergo double blind review. Submissions to the General Section Practical philosophy may be concerned with questions of a global dimension in different ways. Against the background of globalization, pluralism and intradisciplinary diversification challenge received understandings of practical reason, culture, politics, and value. Accordingly, many traditional problems – such as the justification of political order, the form and content of ethical agency, or the constitution and relation of knowledge and power – need to be re-examined. Answers that had been taken for granted and appeals to institutions that we have become used to (e.g. the state) need to be revisited. Last but not least, a whole range of new problems has occured e.g. in the context of climate change and as a result of the shortcomings of the financial system. The new Yearbook Practical Philosophy in a Global Perspective publishes in its general section original philosophical research articles that deal with any of these or related problems, and it is open for orginal research from neighbouring disciplines that clearly exhibits a philosophical orientation. Submissions to the Special Section: Probing Philosophical Pragmatism Over the last decades, philosophical pragmatism has (re-)gained considerable academic attention. According to its original scope and internal plurality, a wide range of pragmatist inquiries has developed with implications for almost every philosophical subdiscipline. The new Yearbook Practical Philosophy in a Global Perspective wants to feature in its first special section original philosophical research articles that examine the possible benefits of pragmatism for questions in practical philosophy, and it is open for original research from neighbouring disciplines that relate to pragmatist concerns and ideas. The selected papers will complement the work that will be presented at the conference on philosophical pragmatism that is going to take place in Munich on the 3rd and 4th of June 2016, the main focus of which is the question whether philosophical pragmatism can earn its keep in the context of social and political conflicts at the beginning of the 21st century. Das Jahrbuch besteht aus einem allgemeinen Beitragsteil, in dem grundsätzliche Arbeiten zu diesem Themenfeld veröffentlicht werden, und einem Schwerpunktteil, der jedes Jahr unter ein neues Thema gestellt wird. Dieses Thema wird auch in den jeweiligen Symposien des Forschungs- und Studienprojekts der Rottendorf-Stiftung an der Hochschule für Philosophie München behandelt. Dieses Projekt widmet sich seit über dreißig Jahren einer philosophisch orientierten Reflexion globaler Themen (www.hfph.de/rottendorf). Hiermit bitten wir um Beiträge sowohl zum allgemeinen Beitragsteil als auch zum Schwerpunktteil, der sich in diesem Jahr mit dem philosophischen Pragmatismus beschäftigen wird. Das Auswahlverfahren verläuft in zwei Schritten: Bis zum 15. März 2016 können Abstracts von 500 Wörtern eingereicht werden, die von den Herausgebern geprüft werden. Nach positiver Begutachtung wird um Einreichung der fertig ausgearbeiteten Beiträge (6.000 bis 10.000 Wörter) bis zum 30. September 2016 gebeten. Das Jahrbuch erscheint im Sommer 2017. Hinsichtlich der philosophischen Methode bestehen keine Einschränkungen. Allein die wissenschaftliche Qualität und Innovationskraft der Beiträge sind ausschlaggebend. Beiträge des philosophischen Nachwuchses sind besonders erwünscht. Alle eingereichten Beiträge werden doppelt-blind begutachtet. Einreichungen zum allgemeinen Beitragsteil Die praktische Philosophie beschäftigt sich heute mit globalen Fragen in unterschiedlicher Weise: Vor dem Hintergrund der Globalisierung müssen traditionelle Probleme – wie etwa die Begründung politischer Ordnung, Modus und Inhalt ethischen Handelns, oder Verfasstheit und Verhältnis von Episteme und Macht – jenseits eurozentrischer Denkgewohnheiten neu verhandelt werden. Selbstverständlich erscheinende Antworten, die auf den Staat oder andere „klassisch“ gewordene Akteure verweisen, werden zunehmend fragwürdig. Nicht zuletzt sind mit den Auswirkungen des Klimawandels und den Unzulänglichkeiten des globalen Finanzsystems ganz neue Problemlagen entstanden. Das neue Jahrbuch Praktische Philosophie in globaler Perspektive veröffentlicht in seinem allgemeinen Beitragsteil Arbeiten, die sich in diesem Problemfeld verorten, und ist offen für Arbeiten aus benachbarten Disziplinen, die philosophisch anschlussfähig sind. Einreichungen zum Schwerpunktteil: Der philosophische Pragmatismus in der Bewährung Der philosophische Pragmatismus erfreut sich seit einiger Zeit größerer Aufmerksamkeit. Dabei sind, entsprechend der Breite des ursprünglichen Programms, eine Vielzahl an pragmatistischen Forschungsfeldern entstanden, die so gut wie jede philosophische Subdisziplin tangieren. Das neue Jahrbuch für Praktische Philosophie in globaler Perspektive möchte in seinem diesjährigen Schwerpunktteil Arbeiten veröffentlichen, die dezidiert den Mehrwert des Pragmatismus für Fragen der praktischen Philosophie untersuchen, und ist offen für Arbeiten aus benachbarten Disziplinen, die an den pragmatistischen Diskurs anschließen. Die ausgewählten Arbeiten ergänzen die Diskussion der wissenschaftlichen Tagung zum philosophischen Pragmatismus am 3. und 4. Juni 2016 in München, die sich pragmatistischen Perspektiven zum Thema gesellschaftliche Konflikte zum Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts widmet.
